Just over eighteen years ago, a brave group of young families pioneered a new community in the heart of the Land of Israel. Its composition: ba'alei teshuva (newly religious Jews) from all over the world who had come together in Israel.
Beginning with seven families, and under the guidance of the renowned Chassidic mystic Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburg, the town of Bat Ayin was set up in 1989 on a hilltop purchased by the Jewish Agency in the early 1900's. Over the years, Bat Ayin has attracted an array of people with extraordinary talents, and it has become known for its lively and creative contributions in the fields of Torah learning, political thought, music, literature, and the arts. Today the yishuv numbers over one hundred and twenty families and is a composite of teachers, artists, musicians, builders, farmers, doctors, and writers.
All who visit the Bat Ayin are struck by the beautiful vistas, the peaceful surroundings, and the profound level of devotion and spirituality of the people who live there. The village boasts an innovative Zionist-Chassidic Yeshiva for Americans and Israelis, and a unique women's program, Midrasha, which combines Torah learning, creativity, and closeness to the Land of Israel. Bat Ayin is growing, and planning exciting new projects, as it develops into its next stage.
